Bad North focuses on real time tactics (RTT) gameplay, having four game modes: easy, normal, hard, and very hard (unlocked by completing the game on hard). The main goal is to defend the kingdom from the attacking Viking invaders who killed the king, and to guide the island’s people's evacuation. Islands have different layouts and enemies so each poses a different challenge. They are divided into multiple tiles and have houses, with Vikings attacking from any corner, so the player's strategy must be well planned to save the people from the enemy by protecting the houses. A small house is worth one gold, a rectangular house is two, a large square house is three, and a church-like building gives you a checkpoint. The Viking invaders will throw torches into the houses, and if they manage to burn it down the player will not earn coins for those houses. Gold is needed to upgrade units and level up their [[skills]]. The player can also pick up [[items]] (represented as question marks in the map) and add new commanders to the Army.

Welcome to the Bad North Wiki.
Bad North

What is Bad North?

  • To quote the game's website:
Bad North is a charming but brutal real-time tactics roguelite. Defend your idyllic island kingdom against a horde of Viking invaders,as you lead the desperate exodus of your people. Command your loyal subjects to take full tactical advantage of the unique shape of each island.

As indicated, Bad North is a minimalistic, fast-paced and challenging RTS game that challenges the players tactical and strategical capabilities on various beautiful islands to defend their home(is)lands against foreign viking invaders using various unit types, skills and items. Bad North is being developed by the Swedish Studio "Plausible Concept".

Gameplay

Gold is needed to upgrade units and level up their skills. The player can also pick up items (represented as question marks in the map) and add new commanders to the Army.

"Commanders may now come with one of thirteen small, passive buffs – so more than ever you will need to work with what you have and each run will be more unique."

Added in Jotunn Edition, Traits are passive buffs that give your commander a slight advantage. Traits often strengthen a playstyle, some traits work well for certain types of units, while some are better suited for others. Visit Traits to see a list of traits and their effects.
